Hey guys, just got an astra twintop as a rental car delivered to my home for a work trip. Thought I'd have a play to see this fangled electric roof contraption. I press the button and it just beeps at me 3 times. Can anyone tell me if this is broken or am I not doing something right? Just before i ring the rental company so they know i didnt break it!
Cheers
btw, theres no manual for which to consult..

Ahh i see, i do believe the problem is that you went for the vauxhall. that in itself is of far greater concern than the roof not opening.

You probably have to have it out of gear and the handbrake on. Engine may or may not need to be running also to get it to operate.

Yup safety first, engine off, throw the keys out the window, foot on the clutch, eyes closed, hankie wedged up yer nose and fingers in your ears....that should cover it

Hehe thanks guys.
Didn't ask for the vauxhall, came through the company.. its always a lovely surprise to find a shiny new car sat on my drive when i get home.
As the newest car I've ever owned is currently 12 years old.. it's always nice to have a nosey around new cars and so far i've always been completely unimpressed.
Anyway, it was only in the driveway, out of gear, handbrake on, i even tried putting seat belt on. all windows up or down, nothing seemed to make a difference - it just went bong bong bong at me.
And for the record, it is a horrible car.

Check there's nothing in the space in the boot where it wants to stow.. Saab roofs won't operate if there's something in the way.

You may need to have your foot on the footbrake too.
on a more basic level - is it on level ground?

there's a roller pull out blind thing that you need to pull across the load bay and hook in - to signify that you haven't left your children in there.
it will no longer beep 3 times. roof takes ages though, so you'll sit with your finger on the button for ages.
and i can pretty much guarantee your car was supplied by enterprise. they've got millions of em. the 1.9 is the one to have. hopefully you didn't get the 1.8

Give that man the star prize!
Actually we figured it out a few minutes ago (the roller blind in the boot) thanks for all the help. It's a very clever roof but i cant help thinking it seems a bit over complicated.
yes its the 1.9 diseasel and yes it was from enterprise
shame the car is so utterly horrid inside. Ive yet to be impressed by a modern car - but htats a grumble for another day.
cheers.

yeah, this was a problem when i had a lexus SC430 for a while.
you need to have the boot area blocked off with the curtain, the engine on, handbrake on etc..

yes the vauxhalls have ghastly cheap plasticky interiors don't they, mine looks knackered already, mind you, turbo lag aside, I'm pleased with the engine

To be fair, I always used to read magazine reviews that would say 'the interior is far too plasticy..' and I would ALWAYS think 'well what the hell else do you want it to be made from?' but I think I've started to understand what they mean. There is 'plastic' and there is 'plasticy'. It's being surrounded by tappy scratchy plastic that sucks.
Also, i think the position of the heater/ac controls is terrible. the centre of the dash has an ENOURMOUS radio panel. which is really where i feel the comfort controls should be. But I suppose this is just a personal preference. I just find it hard to see what im doing with those controls as they as so far away from the road view.
and as for the engine, well I just can't get on with diesels. I hate the power delivery. It always seems wrong to me. I respect that they make huge torque and good mpg figures but I just cannot get on with the power delivery and running out of steam so quickly.
The OTHER thing that I find crazy about this astra, is it weighs 1550kg. thats 510kg more than my car. yet they are supposedly in the same class. its amazing how much FATTER cars get over the years.
Okay I must stop before I launch into a full scale attack.
